Poly-áxōn

Poly-áxōn policy concerns the mobility network, and aims to improve the streetscape as places which provide communication, social interaction and ensure climate and health resilience for the future. The strategy foresees three new types of streetscapes: (a) green streets, (b) circulation, streets and (c) residential streets. The movement streets are currently roads with heavy traffic. They will still be open to vehicles, but the cycling/walking alternatives will be highlighted. Safe routes for bicycles and electric scooters will be introduced. Shared bicycles will be available to connect traffic jam spots to the public transportation stations nearby. Green streets are available for bicycles, electric scooters and for cars with a low speed limit. By creating more green zones and public spaces, this street type will contribute to mitigating urban heat island effects, improve the microclimate and sequester carbon in summer and create a better air quality. These are main roads between large green areas and pocket parks. The goal is to create a network of green spaces. Residential roads will turn into pedestrian ones. The street area used by the cars circulation and parking will be replaced by playgrounds, shops, cafes and galleries where people can meet, sit, walk and enjoy an escape from metropolitan buzzes. On all streets, the plan aims to add rainwater collection systems and connection cables that will transfer energy from the blocks to the streets. Also, energy will be produced with the method of pavegen.Furthermore, mini photovoltaic panels will be installed on street lamps. General, the new street guide hopes to re-frame streets into places which help local businesses to thrive, support play, bicycling and physical activity and make more public space for social interaction
