Another key component of the built fabric is the abandoned buildings that are scattered through the site. Kypseli is a very diverse neighborhood∙ aiming to improve its social cohesion, our proposal involves repurposing these buildings by turning them in adaptable spaces, that have different functions in daytime and nighttime and are accessible for collective use, using bio-based materials that can be dismantled for a more sustainable design. In conjunction with the mobility system, we have noted three main zones that can integrate different kind of uses. One that emphasizes on culture-related events and provides space for studios, rehearsals and performances, as well as accommodation for international guest artists. A second that combines work with leisure, by creating study rooms and offices, that provide young entrepreneurs and prospective start-ups with an environment that is conductive to their work, while at night they can turn into recreational communal spaces. And a last one for commercial related activities that promote a more sustainable lifestyle, with shared spaces, that allow retailers and craftspeople to experiment and pool their resources, can host workshops to encourage DIY and reparability and can hold public events such as flea markets and exhibitions.  As many of the existing buildings are of architectural heritage, they can retain their character, albeit with new functions that promote inclusivity and a more resilient community.
